Personality & Traits

General Overview First and foremost, Mortigar is a curious person. He takes his work seriously and works hard and efficiently to get things done. He keeps his quarters and work space neat and organized at all times. Due to how new most things are to him, Mortigar can be a little gullible at times. This can put him in some embarrassing situations. Most of the time he laughs it off, although there have been a few occasions where his feelings had been hurt in the process.

Ambitions Although twenty years have passed since cultural change began on the Evoran homeworld, there is still so much that its people, and Mortigar in particular, have yet to learn. Gaining knowledge of the universe is Mortigar’s primary ambition, both in life and as a Starfleet Officer.
Hobbies & Interests Being curious as he is, Mortigar has an interest in almost anything and everything that is new and different. He enjoys taking part in athletic activities with others (even if his skills aren’t very high -- he tries, which is all that matters). He enjoys reading and playing in holonovels. Mortigar is also subscribed to a number of scientific journals as he endeavors to keep himself up to date on all the fascinating discoveries and inventions from across the Federation.

Personal History Mortigar was born in the year 2359 in the city of Ilex on Evora. He is the youngest of three siblings. Up until his teenage years, ‘Morty’ led a rather ordinary life. He did well at school and had a number of peers with whom he associated with. Things changed though when his people made first contact with the United Federation of Planets in 2372.

Finding out that the Evoran people were no longer the sole intelligent beings in the galaxy really challenged everyone’s beliefs. Instead of rejecting the truth, Mortigar kept an open mind. He was already heavily interested in the sciences taught at home, so the prospect of there being more, beyond Evora, was a little overwhelming; in a good way. It was Morty’s desire for knowledge that forged the path his life would take.

When he was twenty, Mortigar left Evora in search of the nearest Federation Embassy. Having heard and read so much about the first people his race came into contact with (and as Evora was a Federation protectorate, information about them was regularly available), he just knew that he had to join them on their ‘great space adventure’. He wanted to join Starfleet. So, Mortigar ended up on Betazed. There, at the embassy, he was put in contact with the local Starfleet recruitment officers. As it had been only four years since the end of the Dominion War and officers were still in high demand, Mortigar’s application was accepted.

Morty did well at the Academy but his lack of experience in dealing with the other races of the Federation made socializing a little difficult. Not to mention that he was picked on regularly for his diminutive stature. Whilst it was difficult for him at times, Mortigar persevered and after four years he graduated.

His first assignment was aboard Starbase 211 near the Cardassian DMZ. It wasn’t exactly what he was hoping for; he would have much preferred serving aboard a starship that was set to go on a five-year mission into deep space. To Morty’s surprise, SB211’s stellar cartography team were kept quite busy reviewing the data that the real explorers collected. Mortigar wanted to be like them, but this would have to do for now.

Following the loss of Romulus and Remus due to the Hobus Supernova in 2387, Starfleet reallocated a large number of personnel throughout the fleet to account for the many operations that were under way to aid the Romulans. As such, Mortigar was transferred from SB211 to the U.S.S. Sally Ride as a general science officer.

The Sally Ride would become Morty’s home for the next nine years. Shortly after joining the ship, he gained a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade. From there, he continued to work hard, which was to his benefit as doing so kept him on the Intrepid-class starship and allowed him to explore and discover things he could only ever dream of. The desire, and the challenge for more knowledge, was the eventual reason why he’d leave the Sally Ride.

Unable to ignore the opportunity of a promotion to a senior officer position and the challenges such a position would give him, Morty accepted a transfer to the U.S.S. Athena to serve as its Chief Science Officer.
